About Me

Background
As a child, I was captivated by animals and loved drawing them in their natural world. As a teenager, I discovered photography. But life took me down different paths, and for many years, I focused on my law studies, built a professional career, and raised a family. My passion for photography was rekindled with the birth of my second child, as I began documenting the lives of my two sons. Then, gradually, I returned to nature photography.
Today, I balance three roles: law professor, lawyer, and photographer. In each, I bring the same commitment, intensity, and sense of purpose. It is the process of research, exploration, and discovery that drives me.
In photography, I have chosen to focus exclusively on my surroundings, seeking out interesting images in places often overlooked by other photographers. One exception is the Dolomites—they are part of my surroundings because of their proximity to Bolzano, where I spend half of my professional life, and they are the only place I explore where I am usually not alone as a photographer.
Style
I am interested in how images are constructed through composition. I often work with visually complex environments, aiming to bring different elements into a more coherent and balanced form. Rather than following the common idea that “less is more,” I tend to think that less is simply less, and that "more" allows for more engaging and nuanced images. Also for this reason, I tend to work with tilt-and-shift lenses, which allow me greater control over the plane of focus and perspective.

Shot Story (1)
After a cold April night with some snow and fog in the Northern Apennines, I spent the early morning in a beech forest of the Parco Regionale dell'Aveto, 1 hour by car from where I live, looking for the "right" tree. I used my 45 T&S lens for this panorama.
